About Alfred Nzo

Alfred Baphethuxolo Nzo was born in Mount Fletcher on the 19th of June 1925 and later moved to Thaba-chica in Matatiele where he stayed with his famaily whilst his father  was a mine clerk in Benoni.

He attended his primary education at Mariazell before enrolling for BSC degree at the University of Fort Hare where he joined ANC Youth League and became actively involved in student politics.

In 1969, Nzo was elected as the ANC Secetary-General at the Marogoro Conference in Tanzania and he serves in the position until 1990.

He was appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs in a democratic elected Governement in 1994

Alfred Nzo District Municipality was previously known as Wild Coast District Council, E.G Kei District Council and later named later named after the International liberation struggle icon Alfred Baphethuxolo Nzo
