Alfred Nzo District Municipality announces the passing on of its Chief Whip, Cllr. Noziphiwo Tobo, who passed on Sunday following illness.

The Speaker of the Council Cllr. Simthembile Kulu said: “It is with profound sadness that we announce passing on of Cllr. Noziphiwo Tobo, who at the time of her passing, was serving as the Chief Whip of the majority party in the Council”.

“We send our deepest condolonces to her family, ralatives, friends and colleagues,” said Cllr. Kulu.

She was 69 years old.

Cllr. Tobo first served as the Chief Whip of the Alfred Nzo District Municipality in August 2015. Prior joing the Alfred Nzo District Municipality as the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Local Economic Development in 2011, after Mbizana and Ntabankulu Local Municipalities were incorporated into Alfred Nzo District, she served as the first Speaker of the Mbizana Local Municipality Council after the first local government election in 2000 and after 2006 local government elections she was elected as the Member of the Mayoral Committee at O. R. Tambo District Municipality.    

Executive Mayor, Cllr. Sixolile Mehlomakhulu said: “It is very painful to lose a councillor of her calibre who thoroughly understood local government as she served in different generations since the TRCs that led to the stablishment of local government. She always reminded us that this sphere of government was formed to serve the people, her wisdom will be solely missed.” The funeral details will be made available in due course after the discussion with the family.
