Community development services

The department is responsible for the coordination of all the community development services within the Alfred Nzo District. It is compromised of 5 units namely: – Disaster Management, Fire and Rescue Services, Municipal Health Services, Thusong Centre and Customer Care & Institutional and Social Development. Through the above mentioned units, the district municipality is able to ensure access to services and strengthen community resilience in a sustainable manner.

  1. DISASTER MANAGEMENT UNIT
    The unit is responsible for an integrated institutional capacity for disaster risk management, risk assessment, risk reduction, response and recovery, this forms part of our endeavors aimed at sustainable communities.
     
  2. FIRE & RESCUE SERVICES
    The unit is responsible for planning, coordination and regulation of Veld Mountains, structural fire services in order to strengthen community safety and save lives. This is done through partnership with community stakeholders.
     
  3. THUSONG CENTRE SERVICES (NOPHOYI & THABA-CHICHA)
    As part of the district effort in strengthening service delivery, the Thusong Centre services as one stop service Centre to bring services closer to the communities.
     
  4. CUSTOMER CARE
    The district is in the process of setting up a fully fledged customer care call Centre with all the necessary systems in order to ensure a responsive and caring district municipality to its citizen.
     
  5. MUNICIPAL HEALTH SERVICES
    As part of the effort aimed at ensuring universal access to environmental health services as guided by the UN & SA government, the unit is responsible for water quality monitoring, food control over businesses and other activities, monitoring and giving support to Local Municipalities in managing waste disposal and ensure prevention of surveillance of communicable diseases within the district.

Planning and Economic Development

The Department of Development and Economic planning is divided into three Units being:

  1. Development Planning
  2. Economic Planning
  3. Geographic Information Management System

A. DEVELOPMENT PLANNING

The unit amongst others is responsible for the following key activities:

  • Formulation and review of District Integrated Development Plan (IDP)
  • Coordination of Institutional Performance Management System (Quarterly and Annual Reports)
  • Formulation and Review of District Spatial Development Framework Plan
  • Land Use Management (support to Local Municipalities)

B. ECONOMIC PLANNING

The unit amongst others is responsible for the following key activities:

  • Formulation and review of District Local Economic Development Strategy
  • Formulation and review of District Growth and Development Strategy
  • Formulation and review of District Agricultural Master Plan
  • Formulation and review of District Tourism Development Plan
  • Coordination of District Support Team

C. GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

  • Undertake district data capturing and update spatial planning
  • Undertake capturing and update of district municipal infrastructure services (Assets Register)
  • Maintenance of GIS Infrastructure
